Sometimes, how we eat food, or how we feel about our body, can get out of control. This is often linked to big, difficult feelings or stress. These problems are called eating disorders, like anorexia or bulimia.
Why it’s serious: Eating disorders are not just about food. They are serious health problems that affect your mind and body.
Good news: You are not alone, and help is available. We understand.
What to do: If you are worried about your eating, or how you feel about your body, it’s really important to ask for help. Our GPs (doctors) and health team here at Anfield & Everton PCN are here to listen without judging. This is part of our teen support Liverpool for feeling well.
Bulimia Nervosa: Understanding the Cycle
Bulimia often means a person eats a lot of food quickly (this is called ‘bingeing’). After that, they try to get rid of the food (like making themselves sick, exercising too much, or using medicines to make them go to the toilet).
Important to know: People with bulimia usually look like they are a normal weight, or even a bit heavier. But they still worry a lot about their body shape and size.

Anorexia Nervosa: What to Know
With anorexia, a person might try to lose a lot of weight on purpose, sometimes so much that it becomes very dangerous for their health. This is an illness that can happen to anyone.
How to get help: Getting help early is very important. Talking to a special helper (like in talking therapy) and sometimes medicine can make a big difference to help you get better.
